A much healthier David Pinkney has shaken off the flu' bug that blighted him at Brands Hatch and reckons a top six finish is on the cards in this weekend's Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship rounds at Mondello Park.
A mechanical problem on his car prevented Pinkney from starting Brands' opening round a fortnight ago. But in rounds two and three he overcame a sickening fever to perform strongly in his Motorbase Performance team's Honda Integra.
“I'm still not quite 100 per cent, but all the aches and pains have gone and I'm feeling a lot better,” said Pinkney in the Mondello paddock. “I'm still learning about the Honda. It won last year's title and has got (reigning champion) Matt Neal's settings on it, but it's set-up is too soft for my liking.
“I'm still trying to fathom out what I feel most comfortable with and from past experience I know that counts for a lot in terms of lap times. People have said to me ‘you only finished tenth or eighth' at Brands, but I still say that's a good result considering the circumstances. In race three, I was right behind the Vauxhalls of Giovanardi and Smith and having a go at passing them.
“I'd like to think we'll have enough place to creep into the top six and there's always a bit of aggro around Mondello so our luck could be in… I fancy my chances a bit if I get the car dialled in to
my liking.”
