As has been announced in the national motoring press, David Pinkney has acquired the Ex Giovanardi Triple Eight Engineering Vauxhall Vectra with which to contest the 2010 BTCC. The car will be run by David’s own team Pinkney Motorsport who have recruited Ross Davis, to be Chief mechanic. Ross, a former number one mechanic at Triple Eight Engineering on the Vectra’s, will be in charge of the preparation of the car and the team will maintain close ties with Triple Eight over the course of the season.
Andrew Dean will return to his position of Team Manager, having last undertaken the role in 2006 for David’s best BTCC campaign to date with Motorbase and the Honda Integra.
David said – “It was great to drive for Dynamics last year and I had a thoroughly enjoyable time with the team, the opportunity to drive along side James (Thompson) and Johnny (Herbert) was the icing on the cake, I have however always enjoyed the challenge of running my own team and have achieved my best result when doing so”.
He added – “We will be running the NGTC (new generation touring car) Engine supplied by Swindon Race Engines, and feel we have a very competitive package as a result”
The team are aiming to undertake a comprehensive testing program as soon as the Engine is made available to them. Andrew Dean said – “Time spent testing the car pre season will be very important both for David and the team, Ross will play a major role in the team as he has the knowledge and expertise on the car and the rest of the team will need the testing time to work with him”. It will come as no surprise that the car will sport a typical “Pinkney” livery which the team plan to unveil at the Autosport show in January (subject to the finalising of sponsorship deals)
David's race career started back in the late eighties, and he has driven in the BTCC in such iconic cars as the Turbocharged Ford RS500 in 1989, an ex Prodrive BMW318is in 1993 and more recently (2007) an N Technology built Alfa Romeo 156.
